Tinkering around with an interesting concept of a class in Spheres of Power - The Pact Master lacks inherent magic and instead gains a summon that provides magical aptitude and sphere effects, with the PM being able to maintain up to three pacts at once (only one patron can be active at a time and switching them takes a while). Additionally, damage can freely be transferred between the summoner and the summon and the PM can temporarily gain traits from that creature.

I'd love to talk about Ars Magica here because I dig the spellcrafting mechanics, but the setting is kinda meh with all hermetic magic being strictly regulated and all people not bowing to that order being eliminated =/
