@MeimuHakurei I've played quite a bit of both! 🎲 📝

@MeimuHakurei I'm new to it. Just joined a group yesterday

@fridgebuzznow cool, I'm looking into one of my alternate magic systems because I feel they make magic more flexible and themable, which would be a fun basis for an rp (Elements of Magic for 3.5, Spheres of Power for Pathfinder). I don't really like spellcasting in 5e much, it's still the most powerful thing you can do but it's awkwardly inflexible on many lesser abilities.

@MeimuHakurei @fridgebuzznow Oh wow you're the only other person I've ever met who has referenced EoM :D

@machariel @fridgebuzznow You know it? I'd love to run/play in a game where this is used.

@MeimuHakurei @fridgebuzznow I know it extremely well.

Well enough never to actually use it as written unfortunately 😆

It is nevertheless my favorite attempt at an alternative magic system using d20 rules. Back in the day my krew and I toyed and tweaked with the system quite a bit, and I ended up using the system as a basis for developing mutant powers in a different setting I put together.

@machariel @fridgebuzznow well I'm definitely into a magical setting first and foremost, where modern/sci-fi is a setting type that bores me for the most part.

I also have yet to play EoM in a proper session (or much of 3.5 in general) because there's lots of fun concepts I wanna play.

@MeimuHakurei I am.

I played AD&D [2e] and D&D [3e] a bit. I have a ton of PF source books. My players are all very new to the hobby, so to keep things simple we play #FateAccelerated but set in Pathfinder's Golarion.

@profoundlynerdy Can you run Fate reasonably well? Even if a game system is fairly heavy on mechanics, I'd still recommend running a system you're familiar with over one that's lighter on rules (which may require a significantly different structuring from what you're used to). After that, I'd run the system I enjoy the most.

@MeimuHakurei well enough, and all but one of my players has never played any other RPG before. So, Fate Accelerated being rules light, along with a compel system that encourages staying in character even when it's inconvenient, was a really big win.

When Pathfinder 2.0 gets here, I might switch them over for a session or two and see how they do.
