Last boost: some find mention of crutches that way to be ableist, so for my purposes in retooting it, please interpret it as referring to tools that will eventually get in the way more than they help, rather than to tools which support ability in the longer term.

Tools are crutches.
In the same way, they are necessary. Be they symbols, cards, wands, stones and such.
They help at the beginning, then after a while they hinder.
Next time you try a (non-dangerous) ritual, try it with less, and master it with less, till it becomes a part of you.

I'm no magister.
I'm barely a sojourner.
If I ever actually figure out how to be a magister is, I'll tell you.
What I can tell you is that it's more than a title. It's a vocation, a calling. A drive to be the best self you can imagine. A willingness to admit every flaw, work tirelessly to fix them, and be open to every failing. It's an embrace of deep vulnerability. A lifetime's quest to never quite believe your own hype, to aim to do better.
To be a magister is to trade victory for vigilance.

A Mastodon dilemma: my chosen local instance is very small, with few toots per day. The federated TL I’ve got so far is mostly just a constant stream of fantasy cartoons and gaming, which is not my jam.
