@noelle @DialMforMara Noelle, thanks for a delightful thread. I understood ‘pagan’ the way you meant it, as in “people who weren’t Roman cityfolk obeying the most recent mandates”. As you mentioned, ‘heathen’ has the same historical meaning but from a different place/context.

@DialMforMara @noelle When people use the word pagan to describe themselves today, they are referring to a completely different context than the one in your historical description. Both contexts and meanings are “valid” but they are apples and oranges.
