I just made a list of things that can potentially result in dx rejection or other forms of mistreatment for autistic people, and it's sort of mind-numbing/face-melting

why is this formal dx even still a thing. formal dx was rejected for homosexuality decades ago, and here we are.

note that clinical diagnosis is not the same as getting needs-based support; that's a political and infrastructure issue, not a diagnostic one, in both directions

or put another way: if "autism" = "it's your brain, silly" + lack of social confirmity, then why is this even still and issue. seems sort of...fascistic, tbh

when it's bad enough that someone can get beaten up or shot over the cops due to stimming, getting overwhelmed or both, there's a serious problem.

one that has *nothing* to do with "autism" as a form of social actorship and agency (or the forced lack thereof), in the affirmative. it's a form of oppression.

this *definitely* includes ABA.

as in

you can have a formal diagnosis and not get needed support

you can not have a formal diagnosis and get needed support (sometimes)

and variations therein

On an adjacent note, I originally planned trying to get a formal diagnosis in hopes of getting support that is more suitable (atm I'm only diagnosed with the resulting depresdion, burnout and anxieties resulting from "passing")

Lately I think that since autism won't ever just go away I'd be rather dumped as a "foul investment". Though the likeliness I'd be able to contribute to capitalism is nigh zero in either case. lol?

@kafkaesqueNomad i keep running up against a lot of subtle (and sometimes, not subtle at all) "in group/out group" dynamics around not having a formal dx. Which tbh, is sort of disappointing.

Not half as disappointing as the way allistic society treats us, though ;p

I personally don't run into anything, but that's just because I'm at a standstill/recuperating/getting oriented point of my life, the only thing I'm (actively) dealing with are the two people supposed to support me. Person one is openly racist "not racist, but" and person two so extremely ableist I'd in fact like to defenestrate them every damn time, but... i need them to keep my appartment.
