I didn't use to think that much of Satan, I wrote him off as a Christian figure, and Satanism as merely a lifeless and unimaginative parody of Catholicism, but my sole knowledge of Satanism came from brushes with metal music and reading bits of LaVey's "Satanic Bible" at a party ages ago

now, though, I feel like it's the other way round in a sense, and it's Christianity that's made a parody of Satan, ginned him up into this grandmaster of evil out of inflated self-importance

*shanefaced chuckle* in fact when I was working last night er this morning I started to think up a story in which JHWH was an Asriel-like young god, obsessed with justice and making the world better, while Satan was his Chara-like best friend who'd go along with JHWH's childlike games of being THE ABSOLUTE GOD OF HYPERBEING and Satan was playing the pantomime villain whose schemes get foiled again and again but really JHWH loves him

oh I was gonna say this about adding just a dash of Satan, or Satan-adjacent, to my spiritual practice, like a really flavorful hot sauce

and that is, it's a way to get my girlfriend more interested in what I do

and therein lies a tale

my girlfriend's earthy as shit, that's all I can say, she's all about creature comforts and food and weed and sex

and holy shit that's just so amazing to me still

anyway, she's not had a lot of interest in spiritual woowoo and that's saddened me a little, because it's something I wish I could share with her

and Satan, strangely, seems like an ideal bridge

I don't want Daria to do _anything_ she doesn't enjoy

but

it pained me that she was on the outside of my spiritual awakening, that it was something I shared with another partner

a deeper connection with a second person...

I told her at last, a few weeks ago, that I'd been tearing myself up because I loved Kawa more intensely and deeply than her, and

well

she was fine with it, she understood

it was one of the most cathartic moments of my life, telling her that

since then Daria's been just a bit more curious about my witch stuff and I'm wanting to stoke that curiosity

like I said, it's not about _conversion_, I want her to get as much out of this spiritual woowoo as she wants and no more

she's a cat, and cats are finicky

but if there's a way to make this stuff appealing to her it's with the flavor of Satanism / Luciferianism

she's had a bit of prep

she used to be totally into black metal, I should remind her of that old interest

she's got some love for the softer music genres along these lines, she even sort of likes Slayer (very "sort of" but you know)

and then there's the Devilman Crybaby thing, that was _her_ idea, making me see that

bonding with her over Devilman Crybaby was...well, bricks in the bridge, you know?

At the same time it's super appealing, inaccessible, not giving any real insight into myself, giving some decent insight, and all around feels hard to keep grounded without some semblance of *groan*

@kara but also satan takes many forms. Mainly I don't see the appeal except as a rejection to authority but even then there are way kinder symbols out there. Demons in general for example can be much kinder in symbolism

She's starting to realize that maybe some things make it worth it.

@kara To be honest, I absolutely do. I see Satan as effectively a manifest foil created by the church, and Lucifer as an honestly innocent, well-intentioned rebel, archangel made deity by notoriety. TBH I pretty strongly affined with the latter at one point and in many ways still do because they embodied queerness and gender-nonconformity in some very real ways.

But that may be syncretic connections with the morning star talking. I also affine pretty strongly with Venus as an archetype.

@KawaSeadrake @kara I think an issue is that there's a lot of distrust for building together. Satanism applies basic principles. Any building together and it become a *cult*, and *cults are bad*, because so many toxic personalities go to that. Those most ambitious are those most likely to build without there being more consensus.

Satan is literally the edgy rebellious off-color 90s incarnate. No f--- too graphic, no slur too offensive, anything to shake off the shackles of stuffy, repressive puritanical living-by-the-book. But yea, that doesn't stand on it's own.

Exactly where the inspiration for Demonkind sprang from. I always related to the “formal rebellion” of Satanism, but the Satanists I’ve known have all been assholes with no interest in building or healing. Even today most who claim LHP are like that. TST is different, but their identity and beliefs are inconsistent, muddled.

Luciferianism doesn't seem well defined, and I'm unclear on its overlap with Satanism, but it seems to me better adapted to be used as a constructive force

@kara @KawaSeadrake @Ulfra_Wolfe One of the nice things about Luciferianism is that there’s lots of room for building your own interpretations of it. I think it still leans solidly toward the self over others, but it’s not as calcified as LaVeyan teachings.

@kara @demonkind @Ulfra_Wolfe TBH... I don't quite remember where I got my own take on Lucifer. I think it was honestly self-constructive, and a lot of deconstruction of the whole "Sex/queerness = ZOMG EVIL TEMPTATION" trope. Whereas Satan was the depicted brutal hard-charger, Lucifer was the snake with the apple, and REALLY what was souring hir offer other than some armchair dictator declaring "Because I said so!"

The difference between “this society says X and it’s shit! Why not Y?” as opposed to “okay, so you can build X, let’s try to build in some Y too so that society isn’t shit in places.” There’s an overlap but.
