Tired of the ppl saying 'im gonna keep doing it because this is about systems not personal consumption' when im actually trying to fix systems but get treated like all I do is try to make people not do it.
Like people will act like they are the real activist by telling me 'actually this is a political issue, not my issue' but Im actually doing shit about the politics. But all they got is basically acting like they are woke for doing it but being aware that it's part of a shitty system.
When I ask you to not use Airbnb I'm not saying this is the best or only way to fight this. I was involved in ballot initiative campaigning in SF with tenants union, as well as grassroots organising against it to. I studied City planning and focused on gentrification. I do and did a lot of work for this. I know there's no ethical consumption blah blah, but I also will work on practical fixes to get to the utopian ideal. I don't need 'if it's not utopian it's liberal' because that in reality does little.
@eribloodlust And like airbnb is less than a decade old. It's not like an ingrained part of society, is a recent disease we should all be trying to fight off. It's not a fundamental service you can't get otherwise. There are hostels and hotels and guest rooms and other ways of finding short term sublets.
like if you can't stay in a hostel or hotel for accessibility purposes and similarly you can't find a sublet through other means, that's fine but I don't think that describes a significant number of airbnb users.
